The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) says classes will start from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Monday to Friday for Junior high school (JHS) final year students when school reopens on June 29.

As part of measures to prevent the spread of the novel virus, each classroom is entitled to contain a maximum of at least 30 students.

President Akufo-Addo in his eleventh citizenry address directed for schools to be reopened to only final year students in the country to enable them to complete the 2019/2020 academic year and prepare for their exit exams.

“JHS final year students are expected to reopen the school on Monday, June 29, and start classes from 0900 hours to 1300 hours each day”, the Education Service has said.

The 2020 BECE candidates would spend eleven weeks for revision and one week to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The Service has also advised parents to feed their children adequately and provide for their snacks and fruits before reporting to school.

To ensure the safety of students throughout the eleven weeks in school, the Education Service has disclosed that students would undergo daily enhanced routine protocols before being allowed entry into their classrooms.

Additionally, Water Sanitation and Health (WASH) facilities would be provided and positioned at entry points in the schools while each student would be equipped with three washable usable nose masks.

According to the GES, students would be trained by a team from the Ghana Health Service on the appropriate use of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that would be given to them.

It stated that for the safety of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff there will be no mass gathering, no religious activities, no sporting activities, and no visitors during school hours.
