The rise in the previous numbers came as a result of a teacher and his spouse who tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.

“The Ghana Education Service (GES) received reports of suspected cases of COVID-19 from some second cycle institutions including Accra Girls Senior High school. The Ghana Health Service was subsequently notified of the situation. As of 6th July 2020, six (6) students, a teacher and spouse have been confirmed as positive for COVID-19 in Accra Girls Senior High School”.

The Director-General of GES - Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, also confirmed this in his conversation with the morning show host of PeaceFM - Kwame Sefa Kayi, that the school has recorded eight cases so far and assured the general public and parents to remain calm. He said the six confirmed students, the teacher and Spouse have been taken to a treatment center for further management and are currently doing well.

Parents Reaction

Earlier, some parents said they were anxious and perturbed about the situation since the school authorities were failing to update them on their Whatsapp platform about the current situation on the ground. Amidst the fears and anxiety, this resulted in some parents trooping to the school to take their wards.

Police officers were deployed to the school to ensure calmness and safety at the school premises.
