UG Freshers Orientation: SRC reduces taxi fare for freshers

The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana says it has completed negotiations with the Taxi Union at Okponglo over the cost of transport fare for fresh students.

Newly admitted students of the University, who prefer to board a taxi to the Registry or Great Hall, rather than join the free shuttling services on campus, will have to pay GHC 1.00 instead of the usual GHC 7.00

After series of negotiations, the SRC has successfully reached an agreement with the Taxi Union at Okponglo who ply campus to charge a fare of not more than GHC 1 from the Okponglo to the Registry or Great Hallthe SRC said in a communique.

The SRC says that this intervention ends after the scheduled period for the orientation of newly admitted students.

Orientation for fresh students is scheduled to end on Friday, August 30, 2019.

The orientation started on Wednesday, August 28 and it is being held at the Great Hall of the University.

It is estimated that over 20,000 persons who applied to undertake its undergraduate programs on the Main, City and Korle-Bu campuses of the University as well as the distance education program for the 2019/2020 academic year.
